Growing up where both Scott and I did, skating and playing hockey are like walking... you are just born to do it. Out here on the west coast it is not as common, but many still take part (many little boys want to play for the Vancouver Canucks one day). Where I grew up there were lakes and homemade rinks every winter, so it was easy to learn and practice.
We thought it would be important for our boys to also have a start on skates. Zachary started his sporting adventures with soccer, and unfortunately we did get him on skates until he was a little older. He has taken lessons and can skate forward, backward and can stop. He wasn't crazy about it, so it has ended there. Jonas on the other hand is 4 and we got him into lessons this past fall. Jonas seemed to catch on pretty quick and even enjoyed it.
